How to derive it
Start from a formula that defines specific heat capacity, then replace each quantity with its dimensions. M is mass, L is length, T is time, K is temperature.
- Rearrange: c = Q ÷ (m ΔT)
- = [ML²T⁻²] ÷ ([M] × [K])
- So [specific heat capacity] = [L²T⁻²K⁻¹], also written [M⁰L²T⁻²K⁻¹].
