How to derive it
Start from a formula that defines electric flux, then replace each quantity with its dimensions. M is mass, L is length, T is time, A is electric current.
- Φ = electric field × area = [MLT⁻³A⁻¹] × [L²]
- So [electric flux] = [ML³T⁻³A⁻¹], also written [M¹L³T⁻³A⁻¹].

Questions students ask
What is the dimensional formula of electric flux?
[ML³T⁻³A⁻¹] (or [M¹L³T⁻³A⁻¹]), from Φ = E × A. Its SI unit is N m² C⁻¹ = V m.
What are the dimensions of electric flux?
M: 1, L: 3, T: -3, A: -1.
What is the SI unit of electric flux?
N m² C⁻¹ = V m.
